Kimber Solo CDP

April 14th, 2011 Leave a comment Go to comments

Kimber has a new Solo in the works. This new model will be called the Solo CDP and features a few improvements / desired features missing on the current Solo model.

In addition to the Kimber Solo CDP’s addition of rosewood Crimson Trace lasergrips, the Solo CDP also gains night sights, front strap checkering, and back strap checkering. The front and back strap checkering added to the Solo CDP will please a lot of shooters – some are adding skate tape to the frame to increase the texture / improve the grip because when your hand gets sweaty, it tends to get slippery.

See the photo of the Solo CDP below along. We currently do not have a projected release date. It is safe to say that it will be around the fall considering that the Solo Stainless won’t start shipping until sometime around June.

We have 150 Solo CDP models on order already and will likely increase that depending on demand. The estimated retail price is $1,223. There will likely be very long wait times for this model considering that the demand for the regular two tone and stainless model are so backed up. If you’re interested in being notified when this model is available for sale, send an email to john@osagecountyguns.com or leave a comment.

Kimber Solo CDP

You’ll notice that the Crimson Trace grips now have the Kimber logo. The previous demo version we saw at SHOT didn’t feature the logo.

Below you’ll see the Solo CDP compared to the regular Solo Two Tone.

Kimber Solo CDP / Two Tone Comparison

The part number for the Solo CDP is 3900009

Is Kimber planning to sell a all blue Solo?

    • July 19th, 2011 at 15:18 | #2

Kimber has not indicated that they’ll build an all blue Solo yet. To date, just the three models (Solo, Solo Stainless, and Solo CDP) have been announced. With the extremely slow deliveries we’re seeing on these, I think it would be a mistake to introduce even more models that can’t be delivered.

I called every kimber dealer within 500 miles, i’m in Michigan and all of them pretty much said the same thing ” kimber won’t say a word about the solo” something weird is happening with kimber. Most of the dealers said all kimbers are hard to come by.

They aren’t alone. We are seeing slow shipments of 1911’s and very few Solo’s. Virtually no Solo information is available (relating to production and shipments).

We saw a shipment of Solo’s 2 weeks ago – pretty much all of them were sent to customers on our initial January pre-order list. We’re starting at the top of our call list now but the list is still pretty long. No word still on the STS or CDP models.

I have been told that Kimber will be producing these in a North Carolina. Can anyone else confirm this?

I spoke to a local guy at a gun shop here in the Denver area last week. He has a friend who is a Kimber corporate salesman. The guy indicated they (Kimber) had stepped up production recently, and that a huge shipment was in the process of leaving the factory. Of course with the demand for this thing, even a huge shipment will likely be spread very thin…

I spoke to another store here in Colorado that was recommended to me. Even though it’s a small store, it turns out they’re the #1 Kimber retailer in the state. I tend to believe that since he’s had 6 solo’s so far, when every other store I’ve called in the state has had only 1 or 2 (if any at all) He has 38 guys on his waiting list (39 now counting me) and he’s telling guys it could be as late as June 2012 to clear his list. He’s also telling guys if you really want one, don’t hold out for a 2-tone, or a stainless, just take what comes available and be thankful…

That is more or less what we’re telling people – just try to get any model available. We’re also estimating next summer based on current deliveries. Our list is currently around 110.

The two tone is the only one I have heard about guys finding. Nobody even seems to know when the stainless version will be available.

Update… One other bit of advice I can now share. If you are on a waiting list for one of these, BE READY! I was #19 on a waiting list at a small gun store here in the Denver area that ordered 30 Solo’s in January. This past Friday (Sept. 16) they had their first two of that order come in. Despite calling all 18 names ahead of me, I still got the first one, and as of closing time Friday night, the other one was sitting in the display case up for sale!

I got my solo yesterday. I own a Kahr P380 and PM9 and I love both of these handguns as they are time machined tools. I have a Kimber Pro 1911 which is fantastic. The Solo is the most solid and smooth handgun I have ever held. GREAT JOB KIMBER.

The Solo Stainless model still has an aluminum frame just like the two tone version now showing up at gunshops. The Solo Stainless just has a satin silver Kimpro II finish on the frame giving the gun all silver or “stainless look” to it. Only the slide is actually stainless.
