Last week we mentioned the Ultra CDP II Plus model from Kimber and while they weren’t available last week, they are now. We just received a shipment with the new 2011 model.
The big draw on the Ultra CDP II Plus (properly called the Ultra+ CDP II) is its 3″ barrel and full size frame. This combination has been demanded for some time now by shooters with large hands or those wanting the extra grip. The full size frame will give more stability when shooting and allow the shooter to maintain a better grip.
We’ve got a handful of photos of the new Ultra CDP II Plus and you can also see specs / ordering information in our store.
We are at SHOT Show this week and one of our first stops was the Kimber booth. We received the Solo Carry pistol from Kimber on Friday and put up a lot of coverage. Today we were able to handle and snap photos of the Solo Carry Stainless model that will be shipping very soon.
The specs on the Solo Carry Stainless are nearly identical to the two tone model except that the frame isn’t black – it has a stainless finish. The frame is not stainless steel. There has been some confusion on a number of forums and YouTube videos posted online about the frame material. It is aluminum.
Another change coming for 2011 is a new and improved Royal II. The Royal II is going to carry the same name but will receive a facelift. It will have Turnbull colored case hardening (presumably only on the frame). It will also feature animal bone grips but we do not yet know what kind of bone.
Additional details on the Royal II upgrades are sketchy at this point but we will be posting updates to this post as soon as the information becomes available.
Update 1-24-11 – It appears that the initial report that it would be case colored was incorrect. It is actually a charcoal blued finish on the frame.
Part of Kimber’s 2011 additions will be the Super Carry HD Family. These new Super Carry pistols will come in the usual flavors – Ultra, Pro, and Custom. They will have a stainless steel frame and slide with KimPro II coating.
In addition to the stainless steel, these pistols will be all black, unlike the current two tone configuration. Pricing is not yet available but we anticipate it to be similar to that of the current Super Carry models.
Check back here for updates including photos, full specs, and pricing.
In addition to the Ultra CDP II Plus, Kimber is rolling out a Super Carry Ultra Plus.
Like the Kimber Ultra CDP II Plus, the Super Carry Ultra Plus will have a 3″ barrel / slide and full size frame / grips. It will be on display at SHOT and we’ll post updates with photos as soon as they become available.
We have some news rolling in from Kimber! There are a number of new Kimber 1911’s rolling out for 2011. The first one we’re covering is the modified Ultra CDP called the Ultra CDP Plus.
The Ultra CDP Plus is a CDP with a 3″ barrel and full size frame. It is a lot like a reverse compact.
We will post updates on this blog post as soon as we hear more info or have photos. We’ll definitely have photos within 2 weeks as we will be attending SHOT and the new pistol will be on display there.
Update 6-1-11: The Ultra CDP II Plus is now available for sale in our store. We’ve got about a dozen photos along with specs and ordering information.
We have been working to grow our Kimber photo gallery as fast as possible. We have detailed photos of 33 models as of now and we’ll continue to expand the gallery as we receive new models. If you are looking for Kimber photos, head over and check out the gallery.
